Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a fun, safe and relaxing holiday! Wishing you all the best in 2020.

It is still very cold outside. Please make sure your child comes to school with warm attire (i.e., hat, mittens, snow pants, extra socks, etc).

In Language, we are working on sounding out words to create sentences. I am reminding the children to use their personal dictionaries and word wall to help them. We will be revisiting descriptive writing soon! For example, describing popcorn with our five senses. What does popcorn look, feel, taste, sound and smell like. As a class, we have already gone over what Winter looks, feels, tastes, sounds and smells like. Please continue to read with your child at home, practice weekly word wall words, and write in their journals! If you have any questions about the homework folder please do not hesitate to call me at school! It is very important that your child not only practices reading and word wall words at school but also at home.

In Math, we are finishing up graphing and moving onto symmetry. We have loved learning about different kinds of graphs and how to collect, represent and analyze them. We have learned about bar graphs, pictographs, tally charts, etc.

Before the Christmas break, in Science, Grade 1's started exploring matter and energy in our lives. Grade 2's started exploring different properties of liquids and solids. We cannot wait for some fun experiments. Ask your child about what they are learning in science at home!

In Religion, the grade 2's have started sacrament preparation for their first communion. Important dates for this will be coming soon. As a class, we have been learning about families and what we like to do with our families. We have also read stories and discussed ways to get along with our friends and siblings.

As a school, we are focusing on the global competency Communication. We have had numerous class discussions about ways we can communicate with our peers, educators, community members, etc. It is important that we communicate our feelings, ideas, opinions, wants, etc. in the proper way. Let's communicate with one another to make our world a better place!

Important Dates in January:

January 13th-17th- Kindergarten Registration
January 24th- PD Day (NO SCHOOL)
