OCTOBER


Where did September go! We have had such a busy and fun first month of school. We
are doing a great job at being respectful, being kind and being responsible. We are
working on sharing with our friends and pushing in our chairs all the time so we keep our
classroom safe!

In Language, we have been reading lots of books and making lots of connections. We will
be learning how to visualize soon (ex. I will read a book and they will have to imagine in
their head what I am reading about). We have started our daily 5 centres: word work,
listen to reading, work on writing, read to self and read to someone. These centres will
allow your child to practice high-frequency words and build stamina and independence
when reading. Please have your child read for 10-15 minutes a night.
In Math, we are finishing up single-digit addition and moving onto single-digit subtraction.
We have loved doing math scoots, domino addition, dice addition and collaborating with
each other!
In Religion, we have been learning how to be Good Samaritans. We learned that you can
be a Good Samaritan by helping someone, giving someone a nice compliment, cleaning up
the environment, respecting people, etc. We got into small groups and  made short drama
plays of demonstrating how to be a Good Samaritan. We presented them to the class!
We have started our weekly word wall words. Every week your child will get 5 new
W.W.W’s. Please practice reading and writing them at home. You can even practice
making sentences with them!
If your child requires a spoon for lunch please send one with them. We have spoons to
let them borrow but it is a lot of washing for the staff members. So if you are able to
send a spoon with your child that is greatly appreciated.

  • Oct. 9th - Dental screening for JK, SK and grade 2
  • Oct. 9th- Thanksgiving Mass 12:30

  • Oct. 11th – PD Day (NO SCHOOL)
  • Oct. 14th – Thanksgiving (NO SCHOOL)
  • Oct. 22nd – Schoolwide trip to St. Michael (Fitzroy)

Well... 2019 is coming to an end! I am so fortunate and blessed to end 2019 as your child's teacher. It is a year I will never forget!  Thank you for sending your child to school with warm clothes for recess. Please allow time for your child to practice zipping up his/her jacket independently and getting ready quickly at home! If your child comes to school with snow pants, I always make him/her wear them. I remind every child that whatever they come to school with, they are required to wear (unless they have a note). Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  In Language, we are finishing up procedural writing (ex. steps one would take to build a snowman). We are organizing our thoughts using first, then, next, last. We will be learning how to write a letter this month. A big writing activity will be writing a letter to Santa. January Newsletter

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fun, safe and relaxing holiday! Wishing you all the best in 2020. It is still very cold outside. Please make sure your child comes to school with warm attire (i.e., hat, mittens, snow pants, extra socks, etc).  In Language, we are working on sounding out words to create sentences. I am reminding the children to use their personal dictionaries and word wall to help them. We will be revisiting descriptive writing soon! For example, describing popcorn with our five senses. What does popcorn look, feel, taste, sound and smell like. As a class, we have already gone over what Winter looks, feels, tastes, sounds and smells like. Please continue to read with your child at home, practice weekly word wall words, and write in their journals! Welcome back Grade 1/2‘s! Dear students, parents, and guardians, Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year! I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year and watch them grow spiritually, emotionally and academically. In September, we are learning how to be a classroom community/family. The learning skills we are focusing on right now are organization and independent work. We have a fabulous group of students in our class and we have a two Educational Assistants, Mrs. C in the morning and Ms. Nicole in the afternoon. Mme. Leman teaches them French (block 4 everyday). We have library every Tuesday and Physical Education every Monday and Thursday! In September, we will be reading a number of books that allow the children to make connections (text-to-self, text-to-text, text-to-world and text-to-media).
